When it was built in 1828, the Providence Arcade was the first mall in the United States, sheltering shops on the ground floor and floors. Now some of the shops have been transformed into 48 small apartments. The ensemble, located in Providence (Rhode Island), now includes a café, restaurants and a hairdressing salon.
The building has a classical, Greek-inspired architecture, with columns and a central atrium. The apartments are upstairs. They have areas ranging from 20 square meters to 72 square meters. Most of them have an area of 28 square meters.
