Wang Xiaoying was diagnosed with anemia in 2003, after she collapsed in front of her husband. Doctors said her body is unable to produce enough red blood cells. The disease made the woman always feel weak and doctors recommend blood transfusions. In China, this procedure is paid and the woman’s husband simply couldn’t afford it. Although the man’s blood is not compatible with that of his wife, the woman received blood transfusions because he constantly donated blood to the hospital. In 10 years, the man donated three times more blood than the amount experts believe to be safe.
